Экспериментальная община [ commune], созданная на основе идей социальной утопии; состояла из 7 деревень [Amana Colonies] (около 1,5 тыс. человек) на востоке Айовы. Первоначально образована в 1714 в Германии бывшими лютеранами в знак протеста против церковной власти. Подвергнувшись преследованиям на родине, члены "Общества Амана" [Amana Society] или "Общины Истинного Наития" [Community of True Inspiration] в 1843 основали поселение возле г. Буффало, шт. Нью-Йорк, а в 1854 перебрались в Айову, построив там церкви, школы, магазины и шерстобитные мастерские. Реорганизована в кооперативное акционерное общество в 1932. Сейчас на территории бывшей общины действуют несколько музеев под управлением службы национальных парков [ National Park Service].
